Aims

To provide students with knowledge and critical understanding of the structure, sources and content of the law relating to social justice in England, and its socio-legal and doctrinal underpinning.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Identify and critically analyse key doctrinal, jurisprudential and socio-legal issues in a wide range of contemporary social justice topics
2.
Identify and critically analyse the impact of rights and responsibilities relevant to social justice.
3.
Identify and critically analyse the overlaps between the topics studied e.g. disability and the elderly; ASB, disability and housing; education and human rights; migration and equality
4.
Construct clear written arguments supported by relevant primary and secondary sources.

Outline Syllabus:Contextual Overview of Issues Relating to Social Justice: the Meanings of Social Justice and the Groups in Society Likely to be Most Affected Disability and Discrimination in Relation to Social Justice Equality and Human Rights in Relation to Social Justice Precarity of Tenure and Access to Social Housing Rights and Responsibilities in Housing Anti-Social Behaviour and Social Exclusion Rights and the Non-Economic Migrant Education Law The Elderly Client Safeguards and Dispute Resolution Crisis point workshops [pre-assessment]
Module Overview:
To provide students with knowledge and critical understanding of the structure, sources and content of the law relating to social justice in England, and its socio-legal and doctrinal underpinning.
