Aims

In sports performance, and football in specific, scientists and practitioners use technology to monitor and test their players’ performance. Technology can be useful to monitor the fitness of players, track player performance in the match, and support in decision-making around (but not limited to) player recruitment, talent development, and return to play. This module aims to develop an understanding of how technology and innovation support football scientists in the (daily) football setting. Students will develop skills to operate technology in a (field)lab setting. Students will develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the use of technology and innovation in football in the physiological, physical, biomechanical, and/or tactical performance domain.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Critically evaluate the use of technology in football to assess key performance indicators.
2.
Use technology in the football (field)lab competently.
3.
Analyse, present, and discuss technology and innovation in the football practice.
