Aims

The module aims to develop students understanding and knowledge of the issues and potential consequences vulnerable children and young people may experience in education.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Critically review the issues and consequences vulnerable children and young people experience both inside and outside education.
2.
Critically evaluate underpinning legislation and policy relating to supporting vulnerable children and young people in education.
3.
Analyse strategies and working practices of professionals working with vulnerable children and young people in education.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The module will consider potential issues and consequences for vulnerable children and young people in education (i.e. educational experiences, achievements and prospects).  Various groups will be considered such as: victims of child maltreatment; looked after children; young carers; teenage parents; young offenders and children born into substance abusive homes. 
Critical examination and evaluation of government strategies, policy and legislation implemented to safeguard vulnerable children and young people in education.
Module Overview:
This module develops your understanding and knowledge of the issues and potential consequences vulnerable children and young people may experience in education. You will be given the opportunity to explore and critically evaluate a range of Government and multi-agency strategies implemented to support vulnerable children and young people in education.
