Aims
1. To provide students the opportunity to conduct a focused piece of critical independent work in an international context, under supervision, on an area congruent with the themes and substance of Criminology.
2. To provide a vehicle for the improvement and development of a variety of transferable skills and abilities appropriate to the task in hand, from identification of appropriate topic/s through to the development of a viable study programme, and the presentation of a clear, coherent and robust piece of reflective written work.
3. To encourage students to monitor and reflect critically on their own learning
Learning Outcomes
1.
Design a manageable topic, and design a plan of study, including a timetable, for an agreed programme of learning beyond the environment of the classroom.
2.
Critically reflect upon one’s own learning and experiences of researching in an unfamiliar socio-cultural setting and synthesise this into a blog.
3.
Critically analyse and evaluate data and evidence on a topic of interest through engagement with the relationships between the specific international case under investigation and wider issues of theory, method, policy or practice in an area within the scope of criminology.

Additional Information:Provides the opportunity for students working in small groups to undertake independent guided study on a topic, congruent with the aims and themes of the programme within an international context. Students will also further develop a wide range of study and professional skills in the process. The module has a compulsory international fieldwork element incorporated which will provide the backdrop to the study focus.
