Aims

Aims (a) to provide an in-depth discussion of selected current research topic areas in ecology reflecting the interests of staff members. (b) to demonstrate how hypotheses are developed, tested and validated in modern ecology.

Learning Outcomes

Critically review the nature of ecological problems and their solutions.
2.
Discuss the ecological principles and techniques forming the background to the study of populations, communities and ecosystems.
3.
Critically evaluate the approaches used to investigate selective key aspects of ecosystem structure and function and their implications for ecological change, management and conservation.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The aims and learning outcomes of this module will be addressed through a series of selected case studies highlighting the research interests of individual staff members. The range of topics covered could include such things as: the origin and maintenance of ecological diversity; evolutionary ecology; global change.
