1. To introduce students to the history of the Victorian city.
2. To investigate the themes of class and gender in the Victorian city.
3. To enable students to think critically about and historicise urban identities.
Learning Outcomes

Evaluate key cultural and social histories of urban modernity in nineteenth-century Britain
2.
Critically analyse secondary and primary sources relating to the Victorian city
3.
Develop the qualities and transferrable skills necessary to retrieve, present and communicate complex information and argue clearly in oral and a variety of written forms. Students will engage with and assess the critical and primary material concerning gender, class and the Victorian city.

The aim of this module is to introduce the history of Victorian cities. You will investigate the themes of class and gender in the Victorian city which will enable you to think critically about and historicise urban identities.

Additional Information:This module will introduce you to some of the most vibrant debates in British history and urban history. We will explore the Victorian city through a range of sources, including architecture, maps, photographs, novels, letters, diaries, journalism and investigative reports.
