Aims
To enable students to gain knowledge and understanding of the major theoretical and practical approaches to support children and young people who are on the Autistic Spectrum.
To prepare students to adopt, making reference to the literature, an appropriate theoretical approach to supporting children / young people in their professional setting.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Critically review some major theoretical approaches to working with children and young people with developmental differences.
2.
Critically evaluate the effectiveness of approaches to supporting children and young people with ASD in the professional workplace.
3.
Develop critical faculties in relation to policy and practice and present arguments.

Module Overview:
This module provides you with an opportunity to complete a supported personal study based on your professional practice. Through lectures and individual tutorials, you are supported in completing an assignment related to a specific topic and tailored to your professional needs. This is linked to a professional practice issue which is interrogated within the research and theoretical frameworks.

Additional Information:This module aims to develop understanding and awareness of ASD, based on research. It considers the theory and practice of whole school and classroom approaches to working with children and young people with Autistic Spectrum conditions. Policy, research and practice are critically evaluated in relation to a range of strategies and support mechanisms.
