Aims
1. Students will synthesise their skills of sports writing, reporting and production to produce journalism artefacts both in groups and individually that match or approach professional standards.
2. Students will build on previous multi-media practice working in a converged newsroom environment to develop their creativity and ability to work within a team
3. Students will develop storytelling across a range of digital and social media platforms to encourage audience engagement
Learning Outcomes
1.
Synthesise previous learning to demonstrate their proficiency at newsgathering, newswriting and multi-media storytelling, working to realistic professional deadlines.
2.
Critically apply knowledge of a systematic application of professional sports journalism skills including team-working, idea generation, news judgement, research, tenacity in pursuing stories, developing contacts and sport journalism research.
3.
Reflect on their performance to produce a critical evaluation of their professional skills.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Students will develop and reflect on their journalistic and transferable skills to design and create multimedia products reflecting industry-standard practice. Newsdays will provide a real-time work-based learning environment for students to deepen their understanding of professional requirements, and the acquisition and application of technical skills in the production of sports journalism artefacts.
Additional Information:This module builds on previous skills developed at levels 4 and 5 to enable students to apply and critically evaluate their sports journalism in a learning environment which replicates the values, structures and practices of professional sports news organisations.
