Aims

1. Students will synthesise their skills of writing, reporting and production to produce journalism artefacts both in groups and individually that match or approach professional standards. 2. Students will build on previous multi-media practice working in a converged newsroom environment to develop their creativity and ability to work within a team. 3. Students will reflect on their professional practice to evaluate their own performance.

Learning Outcomes

Synthesise previous learning to apply professional proficiency at newsgathering, newswriting and multi-media storytelling, working individually and collaboratively to realistic professional deadlines

Critically apply knowledge of a systematic application of professional journalism skills including teamworking and team leadership, idea generation, news judgement, research and planning, tenacity in pursuing stories, developing contacts and journalism research.
3.
Reflect on their performance to produce a critical evaluation of their professional skills.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Students will develop and reflect on their journalistic and transferable skills to design and create multimedia products reflecting industry-standard practice. Newsdays will provide a real-time work-based learning environment for students to deepen their understanding of professional requirements, and the acquisition and application of technical skills in the production of journalism artefacts.

Additional Information:This module builds on previous skills developed at levels 4 and 5 to enable students to apply and critically evaluate their journalism in a learning environment which replicates the values, structures and practices of professional news organisations.
