Aims
1. To enable students to acquire vital work-based learning skills by experiencing the world of freelancing and the freelance writer.
2. To develop students’ abilities to deliver a complex work-based learning project using the personal and professional development of skills which this will entail.
3. To ready students for the World of Work, and to give them a professional outlook on their coming writer career.
4. To equip students with professional experience, contacts and skills which will have a positive impact on their potential employability after graduation.
Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate a knowledge of the professional writing world and how they might fit into it.

Demonstrate a knowledge of ethical, financial and evaluatory considerations, vital to the success of any independent project.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Students will be given instruction on a wide-range of freelance possibilities and ways that writers can earn a living by using their skills; in group discussions and ‘troubleshooting’ sessions they will develop their critical faculties by offering advice to their peers. They will deliver a work-based learning project which takes their skills as a writer out into a public-facing position or role. They will produce a writers CV, or showcase document, which they can use with employers after they graduate.

Additional Information:Students in this module will be encouraged and directed, through a dedicated tutor, to develop and deliver a freelance project which has been planned and researched in the first semester. A series of guest speakers will further illuminate the module.
