To evaluate a key journalistic issue, focusing on a specific area for investigation To critically analyse the existing literature in the field To evaluate academic research methods To collect and evaluate research data, analysing its relationship to the existing data and contribution to the field

Learning Outcomes

Clearly define a question appropriate to a journalism dissertation.

Critically analyse literature and other sources in the area of their chosen topic.

Appraise and compare academic research methods.

Critically analyse and evaluate research data gathered for the dissertation.

Evaluate the methodological issues relevant to their dissertation topic.

Write clearly and logically to present material in an academic style.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Investigation as an academic tool; applying theory to problems; research design; qualitative research methods; quantitative research methods; structure and content of a dissertation.
Module Overview:
This module allows you to carry out a major project of private study and research. The dissertation is student led but supported by a series of lectures on methods and techniques followed by one-to-one supervision with a suitably qualified supervisor.
