Aims

This module aims to critically consider the causes of, nature of, and responses to organised crime and terrorism, considering theory, policy and practice-based knowledge in these areas.

Learning Outcomes

Critically analyse the causes, nature and extent of a range of different types of organised crime

Critically analyse the responses to organised crime on a national and international level

Critically analyse the causes, nature and extent of a range of different types of terrorism

Critically analyse the responses to terrorism on a national and international level

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Block 1: organised crime Causes of and responses to trafficking and slavery as types of organised crime Causes of and responses to drugs and arms offences as types of organised crime Causes of and responses to counterfeiting, financial crime and corruption as types of organised crime Block 2: terrorism Definitions and ideologies of terrorism Causes of and responses to religion-based terrorism Causes of and responses to politically-based terrorism Causes of and responses to domestic extremist-based terrorism Linking organised crime and terrorism together Responding to organised crime and terrorism on the international level
Additional Information:This module critically analyses the causes, nature and extent of a range of different types of organised crime and terrorism, as well as critically considering the responses to these criminal behaviours on a national and international level.
