Aims
To enable students to conduct independent research in a criminal justice related topic and apply to existing literature in order to provide a developed set of arguments and relevant conclusion. It can be based on either primary or secondary research depending on the programme of study undertaken.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Evaluate and process primary and/or secondary information within the context of specified research activities
2.
Enhance their appreciation of the purpose of research and the linkages between empirical evidence and theory in criminal justice
3.
Write an extended piece of work and present a coherent set of arguments leading to conclusions related clearly to the initial problem or hypothesis
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The dissertation is supported by a number of workshops delivered at key points during the research process
1. Introduction to the module
2. The ethical procedures required
3. Compiling the initial proposal
4. Writing up your literature review
5. Conduct and presenting your methodology
6. Putting it all together.
Module Overview:
The dissertation module requires you to select a problem or issue within criminal justice, to locate this within existing literature, and to conduct independent research generating data which forms the basis of a written thesis. You will be allocated an individual supervisor and support will be available throughout the process.
