After completing this module, students will have gained a critical understanding of issues facing vulnerable people and families within the context of social work and health

Learning Outcomes

Critically analyse selected issues that are associated with social disadvantage

Critically consider associated rights issues for such groups

Appraise the processes of engaging disadvantaged people and families who are at risk and/or vulnerable

Reflect on the skills necessary to support personal and family change

Outline Syllabus:The Human Rights perspective Making helping relationships, Rogerian perspectives Intervening in partnership, solution focused approaches Working positively with disabled children and their parents Working with sexually exploited children and young people Young people in and leaving care, what works and what doesn't Person centred planning with people with learning disabilities Work with Asylum seekers Positive approaches to working with dementia Surviving the mental health system Advocacy
