Aims

To enable Paramedics working in a variety of settings, to develop person-centred and reflective approaches to supporting and assessing learning in practice. To apply best evidence to promote the development of self & others in practice.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Principles of learning, teaching, assessment & accountability. Communication methods & working relationships with students / registrants and the inter-professional team. Tripartite relationships / learning agreements Clinical mentorship/practice education and facilitation of learner support Developing the clinical learning environment. Competence-based assessment in the practice setting. The development of effective roles and positive relationships within urgent and emergency care team.
Module Overview:
This module will enable students to explore how to facilitate lifelong learning in others by developing their mentoring, teaching and assessing skills in the urgent and emergency care setting.
Additional Information:This module will enable students to explore how to facilitate lifelong learning in others by developing their mentoring, teaching and assessing skills in the urgent and emergency care setting. The module will be delivered as a CPD Programme or form part of the BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science. There is no PSRB accreditation for the CPD. The subject benchmark statement is included for the BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science. The following applies to the CPD programme: 1. The programme has taken account of the appropriate levels of the Frameworks for Higher Education Qualifications of UK Degree-Awarding Bodies (FHEQ) and is aligned to level 6 descriptors. This is reflected in the module learning outcomes. 2. The module involves full attendance, which is supported by a range of learning support tools. The module is part time with a written assessment submission of a portfolio. 3. The criteria for admission to the CPD requires that candidates are currently practicing in the emergency or urgent care setting of the ambulance service. 4. The final award is a Continuing Professional Development – Practice Education for Paramedics. 5.The students will have access to a VLE site and the University's other range of electronic support such as access to the electronic library facilities. The module VLE site reflects contemporary reading lists and links to journal articles. The module VLE site also includes a number of presentations for students to access on areas such as critical writing and library support. The students also have access to the module leader through phone contact, emails and face to face meetings. A module guide is also provided, which guides students to the wider range of support available. 6. The programme is assessed and run in line with the Academic Framework https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/about-us/public-information/academic-quality-and-regulations/academic-framework . 7. Attendance is required throughout the programme and materials will be available through the VLE site. 8. Validated 2017/18. 9. The methods for improving the quality and standards of learning are as follows: • Continuous Monitoring and Enhancement (CME). • Liaison and feedback from the students • Reports from the External Examiner • Programme team ensuring the module reflects the values of the current teaching and learning strategy • Module leader updating knowledge and skills to ensure these remain current and relevant 10. This is a standalone CPD. The External Examiner will be the same examiner as the BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science. 11. The approved intake is flexible. 12. The Programme code is 36088.
