Aims
i. To provide an introduction to the legal process.
ii. To provide an overview of the legal issues relating to information technology, it’s provision and its use with reference to contracting for software and hardware.
iii. To consider the particular legal problems and challenges created by their extensive use of the Internet for business, particularly issues of data protection, e-commerce and intellectual property.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Apply knowledge of the legal issues relating to information technologies.
2.
Demonstrate an understanding of the legal problems created by the extensive use of information technology, particularly issues of computer contracting, hacking, unauthorized access to the computer/network.
3.
Apply the main legal challenges posed by the use of the internet in business particularly data protection, e-commerce and intellectual property.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:1. Introduction to the legal process - sources of law, administration of the law in courts, tribunals and by alternate dispute resolution.
2. Information technology and intellectual property.
3. Electronic contracts and torts.
4. Information and communications technology crime.
5. Data protection and freedom of information.
6. Professional and social issues of information and communications technology.
