Aims

1. Acquire a consistent embodiment of classical techniques. 2. Perform an increasingly complex range of movement vocabulary. 3. Extend the use of variation in dynamic phrasing and appropriate use of space. 4. Develop capacity to apply the learnt classical technique into neoclassical repertoire.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The Classical Technique module strand continues and builds on core skills developed in level 4 and tailored to the needs of the Contemporary dancer. Students will explore and develop advanced technical, creative and expressive skills in ballet and modern Cunningham techniques. Students move on to the study of more complex movement vocabulary, retaining the focus on safe practice and application of current aesthetics and individual training needs. The teaching will emphasise the importance of quality of movement, the use of different dynamics and physical commitment to each exercise/movement phrase. As the year progresses, all sections of the class will increase in difficulty. Repertoire/choreography will be introduced to explore the application of technical skills into performance.
Additional Information:This module builds upon classical dance techniques introduced in level 4. Assessment is via one formally assessed class and performance.
