Aims
1. Maximise development of solo singing skills and learn the fundamentals of vocal harmonisation in duet and group work.
2. Enhance the students technical and artistic skills within Tap dance to an intermediate level that shows a wider breath of vocabulary and complexity.
3. Provide students with a fundamental understanding of acting and enhance confidence to use vocal techniques and convey emotion through both movement and text.
Learning Outcomes

Perform songs which require complexity, harmony and heightened musicality.

Show a consistent embodiment of the movement vocabulary, technical skills and practices of Tap dance.

Demonstrate developed, refined levels of musicality and performance to Tap dance and song.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:To build on the students work in Level 4 and further develop their arsenal of supporting performance skills vital for a sustainable career in Commercial Dance – Singing, Tap and Acting. More specifically the module aims to:
Singing:
In singing students will work on more complex songs requiring an improved technical skill and creative interpretation. Students will be asked to perform duets which require harmony and enhanced musicality. Through this the student will be given access to a greater understanding of music theory.
The module will continue to heighten the student’s awareness of songs from a variety of genres relevant for a student of Commercial Dance (Musical Theatre, Pop & Rock)
Tap:
The Tap element of the module will build on skills gained in Level 4 and continue to explore Musical Theatre Tap and American Rhythm Tap techniques. The students explore musicality through syncopation and improvisation, and rhythmic response, through an emphasis on control and co-ordination of footwork. All classes will build vocabulary and introduce more challenging rhythmic combinations for a greater understanding of musicality and performance precision.
Acting:
Through acting exercises/games/improvisation and scene studies, the students will explore and discover their own approach to acting. further supported in recognising their own personal, creative approach to acting. Students will be asked to explore the dramatic nature of several scene studies from a range of contemporary contexts including theatre, film and television works. The classes will explore ways to lift a character from the page and present themselves in a role. Understanding they essential qualities of vocal clarity, voice projection and portraying intention/meaning and emotion through the voice will also be explored.
The Acting strand of this module, although unassessed, is an essential aid to the development of the student’s confidence as performing artists and their overall macro performance skills at Level 5, and within his module their delivery of the assessed singing material.
Additional Information:The module will develop the students’ confidence in performing outside of a dance technique.
Assessment is via two formally assessed practical presentations , one in Singing, one in Tap.
