Aims

To provide the student with additional depth in generic and theatre design & technology specific employment and enterprise skills (i.e. employment and business structures and practices, business and event planning, negotiation, self-employment, financial and tax planning, etc.). To consolidate generic and the allied live entertainment industry skills through focused application in the context of employment, career or enterprise planning.

Learning Outcomes

Assess the fundamental financial and organisational structures and systems employed in the live entertainment industries.

Identify potential employment and enterprise opportunities within live entertainment and the arts
3.
Apply generic and discipline-specific skills in the development of career or business planning.
4.
Demonstrate the skills required to construct and manage an enterprise or event

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Taught sessions: • The live arts economy (structures, institutions and practice) • • The legal dimension of producing live theatre and events. • • Employment and self-employment. • • Planning and managing a career. • • Professional Development and life-long learning. • • Enterprise start-up and development. • • Event planning. • • Finance and funding: the economics of the performing arts industry. The students are expected to also undertake a minimum of 100 hours of professional practice, including a collaborative project with students from other LIPA degrees. Students will be provided with regular support and guidance to help them to identify and take advantage of opportunities for professional practice. Professional practice could include collaborative projects; relevant work or voluntary experience and enterprise activities
