Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This module will explore and encourage an understanding of factors that make children and young people resilient to, and at risk from, mental health difficulties. It seeks to identify and outline the prevalence and context of several specific mental health issues including attachment, emotional and behavioural problems, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, substance misuse and self-harm. It will examine the various dimensions of practice including the structure of Children & Young People’s Mental Health & Wellbeing services, ethical issues and the importance of supervision, safeguarding, Government Guidance/Policy and codes of practice.
Additional Information:Although introductory towards the specific client group the module will require thought and analysis skills at level 5. Regular tutorials will provide opportunities for informal formative assessment to support student learning and discuss their overall progress. Poster presentations will be chosen from topics covered during the module, but must not be the same topic as the area chosen for the essay. The presentation should be 20 minutes which will include 5 minutes for questions. A 500 word rationale will be expected detailing the choice of poster design and topic.
