Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The first production, Public Performance Project 1, will be developed through a workshop format. The focus of this production will be on integrating singing, acting and dance whilst learning how to work within a full- time rehearsal environment. Students will work with a selection of creatives (choreographers, directors, musical directors) and will be asked to con-tribute to the creative process. At the conclusion of the rehearsal process, the company will stage their workshopped production with minimal costume and set. Instead, the focus here will be on the rehearsal process as well as the individual and ensemble performance.
The second production, Public Performance Project 2, is a larger scale production that will emulate that of a professional production. In this production, students will learn to integrate costume, props, staging, band and more complex set and lighting design.
The final Public Performance Project 3 is a devised work that the students, with assistance from teaching faculty, will create and develop over the course of the academic year. This project will teach students who to work in small groups to develop an original Cabaret or Theatre in Education piece. Students will take weekly lectures to study structure, form, creative process etc. Much of this project is self-led and students will be required to explore creative roles as they take on responsibility for direction, musical direction, choreography, costume, lighting design, marketing and promotion.
Additional Information:The module offer students an opportunity to undertake a performance role in a recognised work of Musical Theatre. Assessment is via three staged performances.
