Outline Syllabus:This module provides an introduction to the key services that are commissioned and provided in the UK. It will include a brief historical overview of mental health service provision and build upon this to explore the range of services available to those seeking treatment and support with mental illness. Students will consider the key drivers in relation to the UK national strategies including; local needs assessments; research and data, engaging with key stakeholders in developing mental health services. They will also review the evidence based approaches as promoted by relevant organisations responsible for the delivery of mental health services; this will include an appraisal of the appropriate NICE guidance on clinical interventions and psychosocial interventions. Diagnosis and/or formulation approaches will be considered. Students will review current initiatives and will explore how services might be configured and commissioned in the future.
