Aims
1 Critically explore and evaluate the skills, abilities and attitudes necessary to secure a work placement
2 Assess, resolve and reflect upon the practical challenges of access, ethics and agreeing work placement objectives.
3 Critically analyse and evaluate evidence from a range of sources in relation to work based learning.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Students will be expected to negotiate a sociology related work placement with a local employer/organization and to agree work placement objectives in association with the workplace provider and their academic supervisor. The module is supported by workshops and tutorials that help focus the student on identifying, overcoming and reflecting on challenges, such as negotiating work placement access and undertaking work based learning.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Work-based learning; developing learning/work placement objectives; communication and collaboration within a work placement context; the ethical considerations; practical project skills; identifying and reviewing relevant literature.
Additional Information:This module provides students about to embark on their working lives with the opportunity to secure a work placement relevant to the study of sociology . The aim is that students will be able to identify, assess and reflect upon how their skills and abilities transfer from their academic studies to the world of work and how these skills and abilities might be enhanced via agreed work placement objectives. The module aims to lay down a firm foundation for Sociology Work Placement 2.
