Aims
Aim(s) of the module is to demonstrate an understanding of modern quantity surveying practice and contractual application of quantity surveying practices in various types of buildings & civil engineering construction contracts.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Identify traditional & modern role of quantity surveyors and the code of practice for quantity surveyors in different contexts of the construction & the built environment.
2.
Assess contractual obligations of all parties and demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the substantive and administrative provisions of standard contract forms.
3.
Apply specialised skills and competencies of quantity surveying to analyse & produce various contractual data in post-contract cost management methodologies and practices.
4.
Discuss the importance of sustainability practices in the role of quantity surveying at post contract stage.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Pre-contract Cost planning
Post-contract Cost controlling
Claims and disputes handling
Contract practice: Dealing with bonds, warranties, guarantees and securities
Post contract activities: Advance payments, interim valuation, payment provisions, dealing with price fluctuations, variations orders, daily works, contingencies, calculation of materials at site and facing to revisions and liabilities
Claims: Types of claims (time & money claims), extension of time, price revisions, design revisions, specification changes, external factors, economic considerations & other related considerations
Claiming procedure: stages of claiming, documentation, contemporary files, approvals, compliance with COC, obligations of parties and Analysis
Supply chain management: Supply chain environments, managing demand, including markets and customer expectations, designing products, processes, information systems, supply issues including inventory costs, functions, and metrics (with nominated and named subcontractors, other subcontractors & suppliers) • Competitive effectiveness & competitive advantage
