Aims
1. Gain a critical understanding of the wide variety of tasks of a professional photographer;
2. Gain an appreciation and understanding of the role of a stylist and how they add value to photographic images;
3. Gain a critical understanding of space, perspective and scale and how these can be employed and manipulated to enhance a photograph;
4. Produce a range of photographic images to tell a coherent story about specific food and products of your choosing;
5. Gain a critical understanding of the importance of portfolio in demonstrating your competence as a photographer;
6. Discuss and reflect on current ethical issues such as Intellectual Property Rights;
7. Develop a critical understanding of the various tricks and tips that are common to this area of photography.
Learning Outcomes
Module Content
You will explore the various means by which food and products are communicated and promoted by photographic means.
Working in a professional studio environment you will explore the use of backdrops and props to enhance your visual message.
You will gain a critical understanding of how lighting can alter the perception of food and convey texture, temperature, smell and taste. You will use various techniques to visually enhance food products for maximum impact.
Experimenting with perspective and scale you will develop skills in communicating the attributes of products to convey various dynamics.
This module is a logical follow up to the previous module and is designed to expand your understanding of the photographic journey from conceptualization, through direction to implementation of outputs.
