Aims

*Develop a systematic understanding of the literature relevant to the concept of evidence based practice as it relates to Policing. *Critically evaluate the theoretical literature with respect to its relevance to the concept of evidence based practice as it relates to Policing. *Explore the epistemological, methodological and ethical underpinnings of the study.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Examine the origins and concepts linked with the emergence of Evidence Based Policing and apply this to current policing strategies.
2.
Analyse the various sources of Evidence Based Information and analyse how these are linked to specific crime problems.
3.
Analyse the challenges associated with applying evidence based strategies and tactics, including place based and/or problem solving preventative strategies.

Outline Syllabus:An indicative range of topics studies includes: History of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Policy formation in Policing Sources of Evidence Based Information The creation of organizational memory EBP in British Policing EBP in the US, Europe and Australia Crime Prevention Problem Orientated Policing Place Based Policing Research Methods and Crime Analysis Future Challenges
