Aims

To examine and evaluate the role of the practitioner in safeguarding children and supporting the family.

Learning Outcomes

Explain and discuss the concept of safeguarding

Analyse current social policies and legal frameworks that underpin the safeguarding agenda

Evaluate the role of the practitioner and local agencies in supporting children and families when safeguarding issues arise

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:To examine the current legal framework, as appropriate, local and national strategies for safeguarding children, children’s rights and parental responsibility, working with other professionals, signs and symptoms of abuse, reporting and recording concerns, dealing with disclosure, confidentiality, empowering children to protect themselves and recommendations made.
Additional Information:Students will explore their own role and responsibilities in safeguarding and protecting children. Students will also be encouraged to explore a range of local and national initiatives to support them when safeguarding issues arise. Students will also examine effective strategies for empowering children and young people in their own safe keeping.
