Aims

To enable learners to develop knowledge and understanding of the core immunology and the immunological basis of some common diseases.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Analyse the molecular and cellular basis of the immune system in response to pathogens.
2.
Discuss adverse reactions of the immune system.
3.
Describe and employ antigen- antibody interactions to conduct different immunological and serological tests in the laboratory.
4.
Analyse the role of the clinical and research laboratory in diagnosis, treatment and investigation of immune and infectious disorders.

Outline Syllabus:Overview and elements of the immune system Antigens, antibodies and t cell receptors - structure and activities Complement Antibody, T cell receptors, and MHC – structure and activities Cellular activities and immune mediation Immune system and infectious disease Medical applications of immunology Serology laboratory disciplines
