Aims

Building on from the student studies in level 4 this module aims to provide the student with technical and creative skills in music recording and post production required for the contemporary music performers and composer.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate the ability to utilize/operate modern studio recording technology appropriately and effectively 

2.
Demonstrate an understanding of appropriate processes and practices of audio / music recording 

3.
Demonstrate the ability to effectively record instruments and voices using appropriate technology
4.
Demonstrate the ability to mix recording in the post-production process 


Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The modules is designed to provide the student with the core creative skills in, and technical understanding of the music / audio recording process. The module will cover such elements as • Signal sources and destinations • Routing and patching • Foldback • Sound Theory • Digital Audio concepts • Microphone selection and placement • Recording levels and sound quality • Audio Editing • Mixing and post-production • Mastering Throughout the module students will be asked to explore both the technical skills of music recording and the creative opportunities / strategies used in the recording studio to create music recording
Additional Information:The module builds on skills acquired at level 04 and enables the student to explore technical and creative skills in music recording and production. Assessment is via two audio projects.
