Aims

To convey a basic understanding of the EU, its history, functioning and responsibilities. To convey an understanding of the fundamental freedoms protected by the Single Market. To explore the law relating to the free movement of goods. To demonstrate how the EU protects the rights of free moving persons.

Learning Outcomes

Discuss the importance of the Single Market to EU Law.

Critique the law relating to the Four Fundamental Freedoms.
3.
Analyse the rights generated through the Single Market as they apply to States, organisations and individuals.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Introduction on the history, institutions, functioning and responsibilities of the EU. The continuing relevance of the EU and of the Single Market to the UK. Basic notions of free movement of goods: - Customs duties and charges - Quantitative restrictions and MEQRs Basic notions of free movement of persons: - Citizenship of the EU - Free Movement of Workers Basic notions of free movement of services.
Additional Information:The module considers legal issues relevant to the Single Market operation.
