Aims
The module aims to develop students conceptual and applied knowledge of physical education and the curriculum, with particular reference to teaching methods materials in primary and secondary physical education, school physical education and physical education and teaching theory. It will encourage students to apply theoretical and applied process relevant to support their teaching of others in physical education.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Teaching and learning methods will predominantly include lectures, seminars and practicals surrounding the curriculum, schools and physical education. Specific examples to be discussed include:
1. School physical education – understanding the wider aspects of physical education within the school and its influence on wider society, what a good understanding of physical education can do for adults in later life.
2. Teaching methods on PE materials in primary and secondary school – developing effective teaching materials that are conducive for teaching primary and secondary physical education sessions.
3. Teaching theory – understanding the various theories and practices which underpin teaching, specifically linked to physical education and understanding which theory applies to them.
Additional Information:This module is designed to introduce students to the conceptual and applied knowledge of physical education and the curriculum. The module will be evaluated by the completion of appropriate assessment tasks. This module will incorporate support strategies in an attempt to ensure student progression. This will include feed forward and feedback on assessment and personal tutorial support.
