Aims

1. To introduce students to literature and critical approaches from an international perspective. 2. To develop understanding of cultural differences in engagements with literary texts. 3. To enable students to write on literature from a comparative perspective.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate an awareness of different approaches to literature as emerging from specific international contexts.

Situate cultural difference within a range of international perspectives.

Present their ideas through comparative analysis informed by an understanding of international literatures and critical approaches.

Outline Syllabus:Week 1 - Introduction to International Perspectives Weeks 2-5 - International Literatures Weeks 6-8 - International Criticism Weeks 7-10 - Reading and writing comparatively Week 11 - Plenary
Additional Information:This module emerges from the subject area’s and university's commitment to an internationalisation agenda. It will enable visiting academic staff to introduce students to literary productions from different cultures, to different pedagogic conventions and to different critical contexts for approaching literature. The module will encourage students to focus on the literature of a particular area within a global context and help them develop a comparative understanding of both the production and study of literature from an international perspective.
