The tools and techniques taught in these modules will contribute to developing your research and critical analysis skills needed across the programme.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Select an appropriate study design for a given scientific study
2.
Choose appropriate methods to statistically analyse data
3.
Interpret analysis produced by a computer-based statistical package
4.
Complete, analyse and report a discipline specific research task
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Introduction to research methods
Building on skills developed in the Fundamentals of Scientific Research module in Level 4, this introduction will expand on student knowledge in the discipline of research methods.
Research Skills 1:
To develop understanding of fundamental concepts in experimental design, the properties of data, how to handle and manipulate data and the essentials of rigorous statistical analysis, using statistical software such as SPSS.
Research Skills 2
Using techniques learnt, you will be required to carry out and write up a subject specific scientific paper adopting the methods and practices highlighted in other modules. Clear guidance and structure of the report will be provided in subsequent documents aimed at supporting student learning.
Additional Information:Students are expected to engage in sessions as well as undertake self-directed learning activities
