Aims

To enable the student to work on a group project that enables the integration and development of a range of professional skills in the context of sustainable building design, maintenance and management.

Learning Outcomes

Work effectively as a team member and demonstrate team working and presentation skills.

Conduct case study research and evaluate building management and design proposals
3.
Evaluate and justify a project proposal in relation to the concept of sustainability.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Climate change and principles of sustainability Policies, targets and initiatives for a sustainable construction sector Sustainability assessment methods and certification (e.g. BREEAM) Energy assessment, efficiency and renewable energy technologies Sustainable building design and materials Building management and retrofitting to improve sustainability Sustainable buildings case studies. Commercial viability of sustainable building design; costings and added value Cooperation and collaboration for effective group work.
