Aims
This module aims to develop students’ critical understanding of specific SENDs, as well as to critically analyse a range of educational approaches utilised to support individuals with SEND (traditional and alternative).
Learning Outcomes
1.
Evaluate the needs of individuals with a range of special educational needs and disabilities
2.
Analyse the impact of key approaches used to support individuals with special educational needs and disabilities
3.
Examine alternative educational environments and opportunities for those with special educational needs and disabilities
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:• Needs and support available for individuals with;
- Autistic Spectrum Disorder, including social communication bases
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs, including nurture groups, short stay schools and therapeutic residential schools
- Dyslexia
- Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs
- Strategies for supporting effective communication, including PECs, social stories and Makaton
- Alternative approaches including forest schools, Attention Autism and hospital education
