Aims
To introduce students to professional technical practices and equipment as used in broadcast media and creative industries, including: managing and organising tasks, people and resources; working to specifications; and applying safe systems of work
Learning Outcomes

Operate industry-standard audio equipment in accordance with defined technical standards and practices as operated in the industry
2.
Undertake production of a studio recording suitable for broadcast radio
3.
Utilise industry-standard video equipment in accordance with defined technical standards and practices as operated in the industry
4.
Create an 'as-live' production of a recording suitable for broadcast TV

Outline Syllabus:Review properties of the eye and ear for broadcasting
Review safe systems of work & relevant legislation for broadcasters
Audio Mixing Desks and broadcast level monitoring
Studio audio signal routing
Audio playout for inserts
Digital audio recording for production
Properties of camera optics
Choices of shutter speed and frame rate on flicker and movement
Studio camera and floor management operations
Vision engineering - camera channels, lighting control
Lighting and luminaires for studio production
Production – grammar and techniques
Vision mixing and taking direction
Playout – cueing, timing and inserts
Video & audio synchronisation and capture
Use of talkback systems
Module Overview:
To introduce students to professional technical practices and equipment as used in broadcast media and creative industries, including: managing and organising tasks, people and resources; working to specifications; and applying safe systems of work This module will introduce students to the techniques and equipment used in recording content for radio and TV productions in a studio environment. Students will be required to work both individually and in small groups using equipment to become familiar with its characteristics in a way that also demonstrates safe systems of work.
