To outline key museological concepts and issues.
To identify and explore broad critical debates relating to contemporary practices of display.
To develop awareness and analysis of curatorial practice.
To develop skills of self and peer evaluation.
To Research and develop a realistic and professional curatorial proposal.
Learning Outcomes

Interpret a range of theoretical perspectives, concepts and issues of curatorial histories and practices.

Develop researched and critical curatorial strategies that are commensurate with the needs of the research artist/s and arts organisation/s.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Drawing on the expertise of curators and gallery education officers, this module examines current museological and curatorial debates. Curatorial practice will be understood to cover aspects of curation, exhibition management, education and widening participation. The logistical, practical and conceptual considerations of constructing an exhibition will be examined through past and current examples within the context of local institutions.
Taking historical and contemporary examples the module typically covers: the history of collecting; systems of classification; Museum and Gallery Architecture; Exhibition Design; the temporary and travelling exhibition; the Politics of Space; the role of the curator; 'Visual Literacy' and Audience Development.
