Aims
1. To provide students with an understanding and critical awareness of the law relating to the vulnerable person.
2. To provide both a doctrinal and social and legal approach encouraging students to think about law in its wider context.
3. To critically examine conflicting policies and laws affecting the vulnerable person with a particular focus on mental health anti-social behaviour and social housing.
4. To build upon the knowledge of criminal and public law developed as a result of having completed the core modules ‘Criminal Law’ and “Public Law” at Level 4.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The below is an indicative syllabus of the course, which will dynamically adapt to topical issues for discussion on law and the vulnerable person in society.
The following may be covered:
Contextual overview of issues relating to the relationship between vulnerability and the law.
Mental Health and Detention
Rights, Responsibilities and Behaviour in Social Housing
Safeguards and Dispute Resolution
The course may include topics of special interests such as:
Sex Trafficking
Refugees
Education Law
The Elderly Client
Module Overview:
This option offers you an insight into the mind of the perpetrator and victim of antisocial behaviour. It explores conflicting policies and practices of those agencies of the State who aim to include the vulnerable, but also exclude them because of their behaviour and/or disabilities. It relates these issues to other areas of law including Community Care and Education Law.
