Aims
To build on students' previous learning to prepare them to work independently and as part of a newsroom team as multi-skilled researchers, reporters and producers in radio, television, social media, in news and, current affairs programming in a multiplatform environment.
To gain an introduction to editorial and production roles and skills for news and current affairs programmes, working in a newsroom environment.
To develop a mixture of traditional and mobile newsgathering skills using smart technology
To develop students' ability to critically evaluate, analyse and reflect upon their learning
Learning Outcomes
1.
Produce news artefacts demonstrating a recognition of journalistic skills in sourcing and compiling original multimedia news content in a variety of treatments.
2.
Undertake a variety of roles in a multi-platform news environment, demonstrating an understanding of professional responsibilities in managing supervised, self-directed projects.
3.
Use industry standard technology to develop professional production of multimedia news treatments, including accurate notetaking and the use of sources.
4.
Evaluate skills underpinned by ethical impartial newsgathering and story
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Students will develop and evaluate their journalistic and transferable skills to design and create multimedia products reflecting industry-standard journalistic practice. Newsdays will provide a real-time work-based learning environment for students to develop their understanding of professional requirements, deadlines, management and team working with the further acquisition and application of technical skills in the production of journalism artefacts. They will work in flexible, creative and independent ways, showing self-discipline, self-direction to communicate effectively in team settings, and in a variety of media, showing an understanding of target audiences and a developing news sense.

Additional Information:This module builds on previous skills developed at levels 4 and semester 1 level 5 to enable students to apply and critically evaluate their journalism in a learning environment which replicates the values, structures and practices of professional news organisations.
