Aims
To introduce students to long-form journalistic writing and enable them to produce and critically evaluate such work
To introduce students to print design through the form of magazines.
To enable students to understand the process of sub-editing and print production.
To introduce students to industry standard design software.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Evaluate different styles of feature writing and critically analyse the work of online and print professionals.
2.
Write features to a particular brief and length
3.
Demonstrate a knowledge of production processes in print including industry standard software such as Adobe InDesign.
4.
Edit copy accurately under pressure of deadlines and write attractive and accurate headlines.
5.
Design attractive print pages with appropriate images

Outline Syllabus:The art of feature writing; the forms of feature writing; an introduction to print design and typography; choosing and using images; sub-editing and production

This module prepares you for the weekly production of magazines and newspapers in Level 6. It also introduces you to long-form writing for the web and enables you to produce and critically evaluate such work.
