Aims

1) To explore in further detail the relationship between Forensic psychology and Criminal Justice 2) To critically analyse the role of the Forensic Psychology in the modern Criminal Justice System by drawing on the latest research from a variety of areas of psychological study. 3) To explore in depth the legal assumptions about human nature that underlie legal procedures and practices from a psychological perspective. 4) To explore key concepts in modern psychological research, and their influence on key contemporary issues in Crime and Criminal Justice

Outline Syllabus:Developing a deeper understanding of the psychology of crime and the criminal Key contemporary issues in psychology and crime Modern explorations of psychological explanations of criminality Different pathways to apply psychology within the Criminal Justice Sector The impact of psychology on the criminal law Practical applications of psychology to detect, apprehend and work with offenders
Module Overview:
Within this module, you will explore in-depth the relationship between Forensic psychology and Criminal Justice. You will also explore key concepts in modern psychological research, and their influence on key contemporary issues in Crime and Criminal Justice.
Additional Information:This module will explore the influences and limitations of applying psychology within a criminal justice setting. Research within the sector will be discussed and critically analysed, and direct applications of psychology to detecting, apprehending and working with crime and criminals will be explored. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the influences of psychology on our understanding of crime, and will be able to discuss a range of ways that psychology can be applied in Criminal Justice Practice.
