Aims
This module will provide students with the foundations of epidemiology, and an introduction to population based health
surveillance methods and public health intelligence.
Learning Outcomes

Explain the main basic concepts used in epidemiology

Identify and assess the main forms of epidemiological study designs
3.
Examine the role of public health surveillance and the limitations monitoring data
4.
Analyse and interpret routine data on health and wellbeing and needs using basic
analytical techniques

This module will provide you with the foundations of epidemiology, and an introduction to population based health surveillance methods and public health intelligence. Epidemiology is the fundamental science underpinning public health. You will gain a thorough understanding of the conceptual basics of epidemiology and their application to study design and interpretation.

Additional Information:Epidemiology is the fundamental science underpinning public health. Students will gain a thorough understanding of the conceptual basics of epidemiology and their application to study design and interpretation. Surveillance systems for communicable disease, vaccination programmes, noncommunicable diseases, behaviours in both high and low-and-middle income countries will be considered. Alongside this students will learn the analytical techniques to inform public health intelligence including standardisation, mapping, trend analysis and presentation
