Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Theoretical perspectives on gender: biological, socio-biological, psychoanalytical, sociological, legal socialisation and sex roles Representations of gender and sexuality Sexual health Gender, sex and health outcomes Critical frameworks such as feminism, queer theory and transgender studies. Global dimensions of sexual and gender diversity Marginalisation Cultural discourses on sexuality and gender
Module Overview:
The aim of this module is to recognise gender and sexuality as contestable concepts that have a profound impact on health & social care.
Additional Information:This module explores the contested nature of gender and sexuality. As such, it will address a range of issues that some may see as sensitive in nature. All students taking this module need to be aware that these issues will be discussed in an open, frank and critical manner.
