Aims

This module will introduce students to the key principles of healthcare management. Theories of leadership and management practice will be covered and the skills required to be an effective manager. Students will be given an insight into the complexities of the healthcare labour market including workforce planning.

Outline Syllabus:Brief history of NHS Current structure of NHS Context and importance of other settings and the provision of public, private and charity sectors on the provision of health and social care Political and Economic environments for leading and managing in healthcare Principles of healthcare management Theories of leadership and management and their application to healthcare management Skills and characteristics of an effective leader Importance of communications skills in healthcare Healthcare labour market Workforce planning
