Aims
This module aims to encourage inter-disciplinary and collaborative creation of new material through research initiatives, devising methods and project management skills. You will develop the necessary skills to create original theatre, assume a production role and extend your ability to work as a member of a creative ensemble. The module will culminate in the creation and presentation of an original piece of work.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Identify appropriate practitioner techniques, considering psychological, physical and vocal approaches, in the creation of new work
2.
Employ independent research in the development of an additional discipline skillset
3.
Demonstrate project management skills and collaborative initiatives to realise the presentation of new work
4.
Recognise appropriate methods of presentation and communication of ideas in various forms or forums
5.
Summarise and discuss the necessary skills required to create new work, assessing working pressures and areas for development
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:In this module you will assume a collaborative devising role in the creation of an original piece of work. You will be required to research and assume a company role in the creation and production of your piece.
You will identify a category in which you will create your work. Among others, this could include:
• Issue-based Theatre
• Forum Theatre
• Children’s Theatre
• Site-specific Theatre
• Music Theatre
You will participate in the devising process with a dual responsibility to manage an aspect of the production, such as:
• Production Management
• Stage Management
• Design
• Writing
• Directing
You will liaise with company members, in order to meet the requirements of your role, including appropriate managers/company members in the group as whole, to schedule and stage your performance event to an invited in-house audience at a chosen venue and within a specified budget.
According to specified criteria, you will critically review your creative process, the final product and your responsibility as a member of the production team. This review may be presented in an effective form, justified according to your personal process:
• Blog
• Vlog
• Podcast
• Written Analysis
• Magazine Article
You are expected to identify areas for improvement and development in order to progress and enhance your creative skillset.
