Outline Syllabus:The social construction of crime
The aims and values of the criminal justice process in England and Wales
The various stages of criminal justice from policing to punishment
The impact of the criminal justice process
Additional Information:This module aims to explore the criminal justice process in England and Wales. Areas to be examined include: police powers, including the power to stop and search; crime control and due process models of policing; sentencing and punishment. The role of determining contexts such as class, race and gender will be an integral part of the module. Students will be introduced to the issues of theory, policy and practice.
