Learning Outcomes
Module Content
The module will comprise the following elements. Movement Movement classes will be delivered across the year to enrich the palette of the students’ movement vocabulary. This vocabulary will allow to give body to character interpretation. The study of a wide range of movement techniques and selected repertoire pieces will give students important tools to be independent in their creative work, through the study of the articulation of the body and the action in space. Movement work will be focused mainly on two methods: 1. Animal studies whereby students will explore animal types to increase movement possibilities; 2. An exploration of Laban technique to reach an increased understanding of how to analyse the components of physical behaviour and vocabulary.
Dance The purpose of this class is to help students to build an appropriate physicality, to effectively use their body as the service of expression. Contemporary dance technique will be introduced to develop the capacity to assimilate and commit to simple dance patterns, and develop these important skills: core control, body awareness, flexibility and articulation, flow, the use of weight, an understanding of individual and collective space, musicality, rhythm and dynamic, expression, a sense of aesthetic.
Collaborative Project - Sharing of 'work in progress' presentation In a collaborative project between faculty staff, students will present a sharing of work comprising spoken text and movement. The project will include work in class and in a short, dedicated rehearsal process. The sharing will be presented to a selected audience of staff and students
The module introduces students to two areas of Movement: Movement fundamentals and Dance. It will also contain two presentations, one in Movement and the second a collaborative project between Voice, Dance and Movement. Assessment is via two presentations, a Movement presentation, and Combined Movement, Dance and Voice presentation.
