Aims

The aims of the module are to: Enable students to explore a range of theatrical repertoire and rehearsal approaches. Promote the application and integration of knowledge, understanding, and skills in voice, movement, acting, and all modules to their work. Further develop skills in working collaboratively in an ensemble situation and autonomously. Provide further opportunities and experience in the practical use of tools required to examine a variety of dramatic texts. Give the students experience of preparing and rehearsing a role, and a foundational understanding of professional working practices.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The Module comprises the following: Exploration of Repertoire - This will be explored through research, on-going presentations, play readings and watching plays both recorded and live. (This will be further enhanced by the work in Contextual Studies 1). Sight Reading - An examination of the techniques required for sight-reading both dramatic and non-dramatic texts, verse, and prose. Scene Study – Students will explore other non-naturalistic repertoire and/or ensemble scenes and further explore and develop their existing acting technique. The performance of this scene study will be a formative assessment. Performance Project– The rehearsal and performance of a cut version of a full-length play. The play will be chosen to challenge and develop the group. The process will consolidate existing learning and introduce new technique. It is an opportunity for the students to bring together all areas of learning to date, and to gain further experience in its application in the rehearsal and performance of this project. The students will be encouraged to bring together all aspects of their training together and to explore and identify connections between the work in the rehearsal and performance of both the scene study and the performance.
Additional Information:
This module equips students with the experience of applying and developing their core acting technique through a series of rehearsal scenarios and workshop sharings and performances. They will also explore key skills in sight reading and explore key repertoire. Formative Assessment of a scene study presentation. Assessment is via the performance of a cut version of a play.
