Aims

The aim of the module is to provide students with a sound foundation in basic bookkeeping and accounting techniques.

Perform a range of basic bookkeeping techniques

Identify and correct basic errors in a bookkeeping system

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:- Nature of accounting - Introduction to the basic accounting concepts - The trial balance - Accruals, prepayments, bad debts and depreciation - Preparation of statement of profit and loss and statement of financial position of incorporated businesses. - Disposals of fixed assets - Bank reconciliation - Books of prime entry and Control Accounts - Errors and suspense accounts - The development of accounting standards

This module will provide the foundation necessary for future academic and professional studies in accounting. Formative feedback is given on the assessed coursework. The examination is the terminal summative assessment.
