Aims
The aim of this module is to provide the student with the essential techniques and creative skills needed for the creation of music and audio productions using computers and other modern technology.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Demonstrate the ability to effectively, efficiently and creatively utilise digital audio workstations (e.g. Ableton Live, Logic).
2.
Demonstrate the ability to record instruments and other sources with fundamental techniques and processes.
3.
Demonstrate the ability to utilise the MIDI protocol to create and record with software and hardware instruments.
4.
Demonstrate the ability to create proficient music/sound based works.
5.
Demonstrate an understanding of the essential principles of music composition and sound organisation.
6.
Demonstrate an understanding and ability with basic production processes including editing and mixing.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module is designed to provide the student with the core skills and technical understanding of music technology including the operation of a digital audio workstation, the incorporation of MIDI, the fundamentals of audio recording and production, and their applications to music production and composition. The module will cover such elements as:
· Basic Audio Recording
· Basic MIDI Recording
· Song Production Fundamentals
· Basic Signal Processing
· Basic Audio Editing
· Basic Mixing
Additional Information:The module introduces students to music creation, recording and production.
